When I was 19, my supervisor was giving me a ride home when he pulled over and tried to kiss me. I recoiled, and he backed off. Problem was, this didn't happen in the work place, and sexual harassment laws were different then. I didn't investigate any possibilities then because I pretty much believed that I was on my own. When I was 23, though, I lost my job about a week after I refused the advances of my boss's fiance. No good can come from naming names now. Unless I wanted to destroy those men. People like me, who don't come forward in a timely manner, and who were affected by these incidents, have stepped up to reveal unpleasant, negative experiences in the hope that other women will benefit. It's heart wrenching to watch politicians now exploit these painful memories to bring others down. They mock our pain and dignity by questioning our stories. In short, they are trashing us, making us feel more intensely the shame we had tried to forget. The old joke is that sexual harassment isn't, IF the "harasser" is liked by the person being harassed. Is that joke still timely? Is it funny?
